# Ramadan 2027 in Morocco: What Changes for Visitors

**Ramadan 2027 is expected to run from about Monday 8 February to Tuesday 9 March 2027**, with **Eid al-Fitr** around **10 March**.

These are projections. The start is fixed by the moon sighting announced by Morocco’s Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, usually the evening before, and can shift by a day. Do not book anything date-critical on a projected date.

## What actually changes

For a visitor, the country runs on a shifted clock rather than a reduced one.

- **Mornings are quiet** — empty cafes, calm streets, light traffic.

- **The hour before iftar is rushed.** Everyone is heading home for the sunset meal, and taxis become very hard to find.

- **Sunset is remarkable.** The streets empty almost completely for about twenty minutes, then the city comes back and stays up late — souks and squares are busier at 22:00 than in any normal month.

- **Opening hours move**, often to late morning through mid-afternoon, closed for iftar, reopening in the evening.

## Is it a good time to come?

In favour: cheaper flights and accommodation than the Christmas or Easter peaks, pleasant February weather in Marrakech (around 20 °C by day), thinner crowds at monuments, and an evening atmosphere that is genuinely special. Against: limited daytime food in smaller towns, reduced alcohol service, some restaurants closed for the month, and the pre-iftar transport crunch.

Non-Muslims are not expected to fast and nobody will ask you to. What is expected is discretion — avoid eating, drinking or smoking conspicuously in the street during daylight. Hotels and tourist restaurants serve normally throughout.

## Where a connection earns its keep

Two reasons specific to this month. **Iftar time changes daily and by city** — sunset in Tangier is not sunset in Ouarzazate — and everyone, locals included, looks it up on a phone. And **published opening hours are frequently wrong during Ramadan**, so being able to check a live listing or call ahead saves an hour of walking to a closed door.

Ramadan trips also tend to be longer than a city break, which is where a flat daily rate helps: no data metering, no per-person charge, up to 10 devices.

## Eid al-Fitr: plan around it

Eid al-Fitr, expected around 10 March 2027, is a two-day public holiday and the biggest family occasion of the year. Almost everything closes for at least the first day, and intercity buses and trains sell out for several days beforehand as people travel home. If your trip overlaps it, book internal travel well in advance and expect a very quiet first day.
