The short answer

For a group in Morocco, count devices, not people: one router connects 10 of them for €4.90 a day, all in. Six friends on a four-day weekend in Marrakech share one router for €19.60 in total. A tour group of sixteen on an eight-day circuit needs two, for €78.40. The router is handed to you in Marrakech, at your riad, hotel or the airport, and it works wherever Maroc Telecom 4G reaches.

Groups come to Morocco in a few recognisable shapes: a hen or stag weekend in a Marrakech riad, an organised tour on a coach through the Atlas to the desert, a company trip with a few days of meetings, a group of friends renting a villa. Each has the same problem in a different form. Somebody needs maps, somebody needs to message the driver, somebody needs a laptop online, and the riad WiFi was not built for twelve people arriving at once.

This page is for the person organising the group. It covers how many routers you need, what it costs per head, where it works on a typical itinerary, and the one limitation you should plan around.

How many routers your group needs

The price is per router, not per person, so the only question is how many devices will be online at once. Most people carry a phone; some also bring a laptop, a tablet or a smartwatch that uses WiFi. A router takes up to 10 at the same time.

  1. Count the devices that need the internet together. Phones, plus any laptops or tablets that will actually be used during the day. A group of eight with phones only is eight devices: one router.
  2. Divide by ten and round up. Eleven to twenty devices is two routers, twenty-one to thirty is three.
  3. Add one if the group splits. A router only connects the people near it. If half the group goes quad-biking while the other half stays in the souks, each half needs its own.

What it costs, per group and per head

Our published rate of €4.90 per router per day, VAT included. Delivery and collection in Marrakech are free. Each router carries a €50 deposit that is pre-authorised on your card, not taken, and released when it comes back.

Three routers or more

The table uses the public rate. If your group needs three or more routers, or is staying three weeks or longer, email contact@pocketwifimorocco.com with your dates and numbers before booking and we will quote the group directly.

If you want to see how the router compares with everyone buying their own eSIM, we laid out that arithmetic in internet for families and groups. The short version: from two people upward the shared router costs less than an unlimited eSIM each, and it also connects the laptops and tablets that cannot take a SIM at all.

Which kind of group are you?

Hen, stag and birthday weekends

  • Usually a riad in the medina for three or four nights, with most of the group together most of the time: the case the router suits best.
  • Riad WiFi is often one connection behind thick walls, shared by every room. We explain why in is the WiFi good in Morocco.
  • The medina is where people get separated. With the router in someone’s bag, everyone near it has maps and WhatsApp.

Organised tours and circuits

  • The tour leader carries the router on the coach, and every traveller joins the same network.
  • Up to 8 hours of battery per charge. On long driving days add a power bank (€1.90 a day) or charge it over USB on the coach.
  • Coverage follows Maroc Telecom 4G, which is strong in cities and patchy on mountain passes and in the dunes (see below).

Company trips and retreats

  • Laptops are the reason to bring one: a shared hotel connection is rarely good enough for a team on video calls at the same time.
  • Plan for two devices per person, so five people with laptops is one router.
  • For longer stays, see internet for a long stay or remote work.

Where it works on a typical group itinerary

The router runs on the Maroc Telecom 4G network. It is handed over and collected in Marrakech, but once you have it, it works anywhere that network reaches. From our coverage map, built from open measurements:

Maroc Telecom 4G cells recorded within 10 km, with our rating. A low number means fewer masts, not necessarily no signal where you stand.
Stop 4G cells within 10 km Our rating
Marrakech 1,971 Strong
Ouarzazate 93 Strong
Tizi n’Tichka pass 31 Patchy
Dadès gorge 14 Patchy
Merzouga 24 Patchy
Erg Chigaga 0 (nearest 23.5 km) None

In practice: a group will have a connection in the cities and on most of the road, lose it for stretches over the mountains, and should expect little or nothing in a deep-desert camp. Our guide to internet in the Sahara and the Atlas goes stop by stop.

The limitation to plan around

A router is one connection in one place. Anyone who walks out of WiFi range, roughly the size of a riad or a coach, is offline unless they have their own plan. For a group that stays together this costs nothing. For a group that scatters every afternoon, carry one router per sub-group, or accept that the router is the base connection and not everyone’s all-day one.

How it works for a group

  1. Book online with your dates, the number of routers and your delivery address in Marrakech: a riad, hotel, villa, Airbnb or Menara airport.
  2. We deliver it charged, any day between 08:00 and 20:00 (09:00–15:30 during Ramadan). Same-day delivery is often possible, subject to availability.
  3. Everyone joins the WiFi with the password on the card. No QR codes, no settings menus, nothing to install.
  4. We collect it at the end, from the same address or a different one in Marrakech. The deposit is released once it is back in good condition.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can share one pocket WiFi in Morocco?

Up to 10 devices at the same time, whoever they belong to. A group of ten with one phone each fits on one router; if some also use laptops or tablets, count those too and add a second router above ten devices.

How much does WiFi cost for a group trip to Marrakech?

€4.90 per router per day, VAT included, with free delivery and collection in Marrakech. Six friends on a four-day weekend share one router for €19.60 in total, about €3.27 each. For three or more routers, email us first for a group quote.

Can we use it on a tour outside Marrakech?

Yes. It is handed over and collected in Marrakech but works anywhere Maroc Telecom 4G reaches: strong in the cities, patchy on mountain passes such as Tizi n’Tichka and around Merzouga, and absent in deep-desert areas such as Erg Chigaga.

Is there a discount for large groups?

For three or more routers, or stays of three weeks or longer, email contact@pocketwifimorocco.com with your dates and numbers before booking and we will quote the group directly.

What if our group splits up during the day?

Only the people near the router are connected. If your group regularly divides, carry one router per sub-group; the price is per router, so two routers for two halves of a group of twelve costs the same as for one group of twenty.

How long does the battery last on a coach day?

Up to 8 hours per charge. On long driving days, add a power bank for €1.90 a day or charge the router over USB on the coach.
