The short answer

You can buy a SIM card in Marrakech at the operators’ own shops in Guéliz, around the medina, at the train station and in the malls, with your passport. Maroc Telecom, Orange and inwi all sell prepaid lines, and their data passes start at 5 dirhams. A SIM puts one phone online with an allowance that runs out. If you would rather skip the shop and have unlimited data for every device in your group, a pocket WiFi router is delivered to your riad or the airport for €4.90 a day.

This guide lists the official shops of the three Moroccan operators in the parts of Marrakech where visitors stay, what a SIM and its data passes cost, what you need to bring, and how a SIM compares with having a router delivered. Every address and price below was read on the operator’s own website on 7 October 2026. Prices and promotions change often, so check the pass on the day you buy it.

Where to buy a SIM card in Marrakech

Buy from an operator’s own shop rather than a street seller: the line is registered to you on the spot. These are the official shops closest to where visitors stay, taken from each operator’s store finder.

Official shops in central Marrakech, from the store finders of iam.ma, orange.ma and inwi.ma, read on 7 October 2026. Each operator has many more shops in the residential districts.

inwi states on its store page that its shops are open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 20:00. Maroc Telecom and Orange do not give one opening time for all their shops on the pages we read, so check the shop you plan to visit, especially on a Sunday or during Ramadan.

How much does a SIM card cost in Marrakech?

The card itself costs very little. Orange sells its prepaid SIM for 20 Dh with 20 Dh of credit already on it. Maroc Telecom and inwi did not publish a price for the card alone on the pages we read. What you really pay for is the data pass you add to it.

Every one of these passes is an allowance: when the gigabytes are used or the days are over, the connection stops until you buy another pass.

Is there an unlimited option?

Yes, for one phone, as an eSIM. inwi sells eSIM packs with unlimited internet: 120 Dh for 7 days, 220 Dh for 14 days and 520 Dh for 30 days, each with 20 Dh of credit. Orange advertises an eSIM with unlimited internet from 120 Dh under its “Marhaba” welcome offer. Both need a phone that supports eSIM, and each pack covers one phone.

What you need to buy a SIM

  • Your passport. A prepaid line is registered to an identity document. Orange lists the accepted documents as a national identity card, a residence card or a passport, presented in one of its shops.
  • An unlocked phone. A phone locked to your home operator will not accept a Moroccan SIM.
  • A little time. You go to the shop, queue, register and have the pass activated, once per person who wants a line.
  • Your own SIM somewhere safe. If your phone has one SIM slot, your home number is out of the phone for the whole trip.

SIM card or pocket WiFi in Marrakech?

The difference is what is being connected. A SIM or an eSIM pack connects one phone. A router connects the group: four people who each want unlimited internet for a week would buy four eSIM packs at 480 Dh, about €42.80, against €34.30 for one router that also takes their laptops and tablets. The full comparison is in SIM card or pocket WiFi in Morocco.
