The short answer

An eSIM works in Marrakech: you buy it online, scan a QR code and your phone is on a Moroccan 4G network when you land. A week of “unlimited” data costs between €24 and €32 per phone with the travel eSIM brands, and most of them slow down after 1 to 3 GB a day. An eSIM connects one compatible phone. If you travel as a couple, a family or a group, or you carry a laptop, a pocket WiFi router delivered to your riad or to Menara airport gives everyone unlimited data with no slowdown for €4.90 a day in total.

This guide compares the eSIMs people look up for Marrakech (Airalo, Holafly, Saily, Nomad, the Moroccan operators’ own eSIMs) and shows where a router is the better buy. Every price was read on the provider’s own website on 8 October 2026, in the currency that provider displays. Prices change often, so check the plan on the day you buy.

Does an eSIM work in Marrakech?

Yes. Marrakech is covered in 4G by the three Moroccan operators, Maroc Telecom, Orange and inwi, and 5G has been live in the big cities since 7 November 2025. A travel eSIM is a data plan from a foreign brand that connects to one of those three networks through a roaming agreement. Your own SIM stays in the phone, so your number and WhatsApp keep working.

Three conditions apply before you buy one:

  • The phone must support eSIM. Most recent iPhones, Pixels and Galaxy S models do; many mid-range phones do not. Check yours in our list of eSIM compatible phones.
  • The phone must be unlocked. A phone locked to your home operator refuses another operator’s eSIM.
  • You need internet to install it. The QR code is downloaded over a connection, so install the eSIM at home before you fly, not in the arrivals hall.

eSIM prices for Marrakech, provider by provider

None of these brands sells a plan for Marrakech alone: you buy a Morocco eSIM and it works in the city and across the country.

Airalo eSIM in Marrakech

Airalo’s Morocco eSIM runs on Orange. Its unlimited plans cost €16 for 3 days, €26.50 for 5 days, €32 for 7 days and €41.50 for 10 days; Airalo states that each day gives 3 GB at up to 20 Mbps and then continues at 1 Mbps. Its fixed plans start at €5.50 for 1 GB over 3 days, then €15 for 3 GB and €18.50 for 5 GB over 7 days, and €31 for 10 GB over 30 days.

Holafly eSIM in Marrakech

Holafly sells unlimited data only: €13.90 for 3 days, €21.90 for 5 days, €29.90 for 7 days, €39.90 for 10 days, €55.90 for 15 days and €80.90 for 30 days. It lists inwi, Maroc Telecom and Orange as its networks in Morocco. Two points from its own page matter for a group: the data you can share from the phone as a hotspot is limited to 1 GB a day, and the eSIM cannot be reinstalled once it has been deleted or moved to another phone.

Saily eSIM in Marrakech

Saily’s fixed plans are €7.99 for 1 GB over 7 days, €13.99 for 3 GB, €19.49 for 5 GB, €30.49 for 10 GB and €38.49 for 20 GB, each over 30 days. Its unlimited plans start at 10 days for €31.99, then €43.49 for 15 days and €79.99 for 30 days, with 3 GB a day at full speed and 1 Mbps afterwards.

Nomad connects to Orange and prices in US dollars: USD 14 for 3 days, USD 21 for 5 days, USD 27 for 7 days and USD 35 for 10 days of unlimited data, with 2 GB a day at full speed and a reduced speed after that. Its fixed plans run from USD 7 for 1 GB over 7 days to USD 21 for 10 GB over 30 days.

Orange and inwi eSIMs bought in Morocco

The Moroccan operators sell their own eSIMs. inwi lists eSIM packs with unlimited internet at 120 Dh for 7 days, 220 Dh for 14 days and 520 Dh for 30 days, and Orange advertises a “Marhaba” eSIM with unlimited internet from 120 Dh (read on their websites on 7 October 2026; 120 Dh is about €10.70). These are Moroccan lines: you give your identity details to register one, and each pack covers one phone. The shops are listed in our guide to buying a SIM card in Marrakech.

What “unlimited” means on a travel eSIM

On a travel eSIM, unlimited means you are never cut off, not that the speed stays the same. Airalo, Saily, Nomad and eSIM Maroc each state a daily amount of full-speed data, after which the connection drops to 512 kbps or 1 Mbps until the next day. Holafly states no daily amount but limits what you can share with other devices to 1 GB a day. That is enough for messages and maps. It is not enough for a video call, a film in the evening or a laptop working day, and 1 to 3 GB goes quickly once a second device is sharing the phone’s connection.

Our router has no daily amount and no reduced speed at any point in the rental: the data is unlimited from the first day to the last, for every device connected to it.

eSIM or pocket WiFi in Marrakech?

Seven days of unlimited data in Marrakech by number of travellers, each on their own eSIM, against one router. eSIM prices as above, read on 8 October 2026; router price is our published rate.
Travellers Pocket WiFi router eSIM Maroc Holafly Airalo
2 people €34.30 €48 €59.80 €64
3 people €34.30 €72 €89.70 €96
4 people €34.30 €96 €119.60 €128
Laptops and tablets Included, up to 10 devices Through the phone’s hotspot 1 GB a day shared Through the phone’s hotspot

The router is one price for the group, so from two travellers it costs less than giving each person one of these unlimited eSIMs, and the gap widens with every extra person. It also removes the questions an eSIM raises: whose phone is compatible, whose is locked, and who has to keep a hotspot running for the children’s tablets. The full comparison is in eSIM vs pocket WiFi in Morocco.

Which network will your eSIM use in Marrakech?

It depends on the brand, and it is worth knowing before a day trip. Airalo and Nomad state Orange; Holafly lists all three operators; our router runs on Maroc Telecom. In open cell-tower data, 1,971 Maroc Telecom 4G cells have been recorded within 10 km of the centre of Marrakech, against 757 for inwi and 740 for Orange. In town all three are fine. The difference shows on the road to the Atlas, the Agafay desert and Essaouira. The neighbourhood figures are in internet in Marrakech.

Getting online at Marrakech airport

An eSIM installed at home connects when the plane lands, as long as data roaming is switched on for that line. If it does not, the usual causes and fixes are in my eSIM isn’t working in Morocco. If you booked a router, we hand it to you in the arrivals hall of Menara airport, already switched on, so the whole group is online before the taxi. Every option on arrival is compared in getting online at Marrakech airport.

When an eSIM is the right choice

An eSIM suits one person travelling alone with a recent, unlocked phone and light use: maps, messages, a few photos. In that case a daily gigabyte at full speed is enough. eSIM Maroc sells data-only Moroccan eSIMs from €6 for one day to €24 for a week. For two or more people, for a laptop, or for a phone that does not take an eSIM, book the router.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in Marrakech?

Yes. A Morocco eSIM connects to one of the three Moroccan networks, which all cover Marrakech in 4G. Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked, and you should install the eSIM before you fly because the installation needs an internet connection.

What is the best eSIM for Marrakech?

For one person with light use, a Morocco eSIM with a daily amount of full-speed data is enough. On 8 October 2026 a week of unlimited data cost €24 at eSIM Maroc, €29.90 at Holafly and €32 at Airalo. For two or more people or a laptop, a pocket WiFi router at €34.30 a week for up to 10 devices is the better option.

How much does an eSIM for Marrakech cost?

On the providers’ own websites on 8 October 2026, fixed plans started at €5.50 for 1 GB over 3 days at Airalo and €7.99 for 1 GB over 7 days at Saily. Seven days of unlimited data cost €24 at eSIM Maroc, €29.90 at Holafly and €32 at Airalo, per phone.

Is unlimited data on an eSIM really unlimited in Marrakech?

You are not cut off, but the speed changes. Airalo and Saily state 3 GB a day at full speed and then 1 Mbps, Nomad 2 GB a day, and eSIM Maroc 1 GB a day and then 512 kbps. Holafly limits the data you can share as a hotspot to 1 GB a day. Our router has no daily amount and no reduced speed.

Which network does Airalo use in Marrakech?

Airalo states Orange for its Morocco eSIM, and so does Nomad. Holafly lists inwi, Maroc Telecom and Orange. Our pocket WiFi routers run on Maroc Telecom, which has the most recorded 4G cells in and around Marrakech.

Can I buy an eSIM at Marrakech airport?

A travel eSIM is bought online, and it is best installed before you fly because the installation needs internet. inwi lists a shop at Marrakech Ménara airport for its own lines. A booked pocket WiFi router is handed to you in the arrivals hall, already switched on.

Can I share an eSIM with my family in Marrakech?

Only through your phone’s hotspot, which uses your daily full-speed data and your battery, and Holafly limits shared data to 1 GB a day. Otherwise each person needs their own eSIM. A pocket WiFi router connects up to 10 devices at once on one unlimited connection.

Will my phone work with an eSIM in Marrakech?

Only if it supports eSIM and is not locked to your home operator. Many mid-range and older phones have no eSIM. Any phone, tablet or laptop connects to a pocket WiFi router over WiFi, with nothing to install.

Is an eSIM or a pocket WiFi better in Marrakech?

An eSIM connects one compatible phone, and most unlimited plans slow down after a daily amount of data. A pocket WiFi connects up to 10 devices with unlimited data and no slowdown for €4.90 a day, delivered to your riad, hotel or Menara airport. From two travellers, one router costs less than an unlimited eSIM each from the travel brands compared here.

Do I keep my WhatsApp number with an eSIM or a router in Marrakech?

Yes in both cases. A data eSIM is added next to your own SIM, and a router is a WiFi network your phone joins, so your number, contacts and conversations do not change.
