Marrakech gets some of Morocco’s best mobile coverage, and everyday 4G speed on Maroc Telecom, the network our routers use, averages 27.5 Mbps nationally. That is the fastest of Morocco’s three operators, according to Opensignal, and it is well above what Netflix or a video call asks for. No public source publishes a Marrakech-only speed test, so this guide uses national measurements and our own cell counts for the city, and says which is which.
This guide gives the published figures for mobile and fixed internet, what they mean in a riad or a café, and what speed you actually need. Sources are named at the end, all read on 30 October 2026.
How fast is mobile internet in Morocco?
Two independent sources measure it, and they give different numbers because they measure different things. Opensignal records everyday use on people’s phones. Ookla’s Speedtest counts tests people choose to run, so its figures are higher.
Opensignal, January to March 2026, national figures.
| Operator | Everyday download | Upload | Reliability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maroc Telecom | 27.5 Mbps | 9.2 Mbps | 791 / 1,000 |
| Orange | 23.7 Mbps | 6.0 Mbps | 744 / 1,000 |
| inwi | 22.8 Mbps | 8.8 Mbps | 815 / 1,000 |

Ookla’s September 2026 index puts Morocco’s median mobile download at 68.41 Mbps, 68th in the world. Maroc Telecom also scores 9.2 out of 10 for coverage in Opensignal’s report, the highest of the three. Rankings move between editions and methods, so read them as a guide: press reports of Ookla’s fourth-quarter 2025 index put Morocco 39th.
Is Marrakech faster than the national average?
We found no published speed test for Marrakech alone, so we will not give you a number. What we can show is density. Open cell-tower data records 1,971 Maroc Telecom 4G cells within 10 km of the city, and 216 within 1 km of central Guéliz. More cells close by usually means a stronger signal, but the speed you see still depends on the time of day and how many people share that mast.
How fast is WiFi in a Marrakech riad?
Morocco’s median fixed broadband download is 56.69 Mbps, 109th in the world on Ookla’s index. That is the line a good riad might have. But that line is shared by every room, and thick walls weaken the signal, as we explain in do riads in Marrakech have WiFi. A median also hides a wide range: many homes are well below it.
Ookla, September 2026; Opensignal, January to March 2026; router specification.
| Connection | Published figure | Shared with |
|---|---|---|
| Pocket WiFi router | Up to 300 Mbps on 4G; 27.5 Mbps everyday average on this network | Your group only, up to 10 devices |
| Riad or hotel WiFi | 56.69 Mbps national fixed median | Every guest in the building |
| Café WiFi | No published figure | Everyone in the café |
What speed do you actually need?
Speed needed, Mbps
Sources: Netflix Help Center; Opensignal.
Netflix asks for 5 Mbps for full HD and 15 Mbps for 4K. Zoom asks for 2.6 Mbps upload in a 720p group call. An everyday 27.5 Mbps covers several of those at once, which matters on a router: all your devices share the connection, so a family or a small team is using one line together.
Speed is also not the only thing that counts. The router has unlimited data with no throttling, so the speed you get on day five is the same as on day one. Compare that with plans that slow you down after a daily allowance, covered in our guide to internet in Marrakech.
Where speed drops in Marrakech
- Deep in the medina. Narrow lanes and thick walls weaken any mobile signal. Near a window or on a roof terrace, it recovers.
- Evenings around Jemaa el-Fna. Crowds share the same masts.
- Inside a riad’s lower rooms. Put the router by a window or on the terrace.
