Yes, a US phone works in Marrakech: Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile all list Morocco among their international roaming destinations. What differs is the price. Verizon and AT&T charge $12 a day per phone, and T-Mobile includes 5 GB or 15 GB of high-speed data on its main plans before slowing to 256 Kbps. To skip per-phone roaming charges on data, a pocket WiFi router delivered to your riad or to Menara airport puts every phone and laptop in your group online with unlimited data for €4.90 a day in total.
This guide gives what each of the three US carriers publishes for Morocco, how to check your own plan before you fly, why a phone sometimes shows no service on arrival, and how to stay online in Marrakech without paying per phone. Every carrier figure below was read on that carrier’s own website on 12 October 2026. Plans differ and prices change, so confirm yours in your carrier’s app before you travel.
Will my US phone work in Marrakech?
Yes. Marrakech is covered in 4G by the three Moroccan operators, Maroc Telecom, Orange and inwi, and the US carriers roam on Moroccan networks. When you land, your phone picks one of them and shows its name. Calls, texts and data then work if international roaming is active on your account and data roaming is switched on in your phone’s settings.
One point for American handsets: a phone bought in North America may lack the 800 MHz band, the one that reaches furthest. It works in town and can lose signal sooner in the countryside. The details are in phone not working in Morocco.

Verizon in Marrakech
Verizon lists Morocco on its TravelPass countries page at $12 per day. TravelPass gives talk, text and data for a daily fee, and Verizon states that you are only charged on the days you use your phone abroad. The data is 5 GB at high speed, then 3G speeds for the rest of that TravelPass session. Verizon says TravelPass is added automatically on its Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Welcome plans, and that Unlimited Ultimate includes international data, talk and text. For longer trips Verizon sells a $100 International Monthly Plan with 20 GB of high-speed data, then 3G speeds, unlimited texts and 250 minutes; it presents this plan as ideal for trips of 9 days or longer.
AT&T in Marrakech
Morocco is in the list of destinations on AT&T’s International Day Pass page. The pass costs $12 a day on land, and $6 for each additional line used on the same calendar day. With an eligible unlimited plan it gives talk, text and data, with the data allowance of your US plan. AT&T states that the 24-hour pass starts the first time you use data, send a text, or make or accept a call in an included destination, and that the daily fees are charged to your bill at the end of the billing cycle.
T-Mobile in Marrakech
T-Mobile lists Morocco among the countries included in its international roaming benefit. On Experience Beyond and Go5G Next you get up to 15 GB of high-speed data; on Experience More, Go5G Plus and Magenta MAX, up to 5 GB. After that, roaming data continues at up to 256 Kbps, which is enough for messages and slow for maps and video. Texting is included and calls are billed at $0.50 a minute. Essentials plans get free texting only: for data T-Mobile sells International Passes, at $10 for 2 GB over 24 hours, $50 for 15 GB over 10 days or $75 for 30 GB over 30 days, each with unlimited calling.
What a week in Marrakech costs, per phone and per group
| 7 days | Pocket WiFi router | Verizon TravelPass | AT&T Day Pass | T-Mobile Essentials |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 phone | €34.30 | $84 | $84 | $50 |
| 2 phones | €34.30 | $168 | $126 | $100 |
| 4 phones | €34.30 | $336 | $210 | $200 |
| Data | Unlimited, shared by up to 10 devices | 5 GB a day at high speed, then 3G | Your US plan’s allowance | 15 GB per pass |
The daily passes are paid per phone and per day used. The router is one price for the group: a couple, a family or four friends share one unlimited connection, laptops and tablets included. On the T-Mobile plans that include roaming data there is no daily charge; the allowance is 5 GB or 15 GB per phone and then drops to 256 Kbps, and the router adds full-speed data with no amount to watch for everyone travelling with you.
How to check your own plan before you fly
- Open your carrier’s app (My Verizon, myAT&T or T-Life) and look up Morocco in the international section. It shows what your plan includes, which can differ from the standard figures above.
- Check whether a pass is already on your line. A daily pass that is on your line starts on its own the first time the phone uses data, sends a text or takes a call abroad.
- Decide before you land. If you will not pay the daily charge, switch data roaming off in your phone’s settings before the plane lands, so the phone does not start a chargeable day on its own.
- Keep WhatsApp ready. Over a WiFi connection, messages and WhatsApp calls do not use roaming.

Why is my phone not working in Marrakech?
When a US phone shows no service or no data after landing, the cause is usually one of these:
- Data roaming is switched off in the phone’s settings. Calls may work while data does not.
- International roaming is not active on the account, or the plan has no international feature.
- The phone has not registered on a Moroccan network yet. Switching airplane mode on and off, or choosing a network by hand, usually fixes it.
A phone with roaming switched off still connects to WiFi, which is how most visitors use theirs.
The way to avoid roaming charges: a router for the group
No daily roaming charge
- Leave data roaming off: every phone uses the router’s WiFi.
- €4.90 a day in total, not $12 a day per phone.
Unlimited data
- No 5 GB a day, no 256 Kbps, no reduced speed.
- Maps, video calls and streaming for the whole stay.
Up to 10 devices
- Phones, laptops and children’s tablets on one connection.
- One price whether you are two or six.
Your number stays yours
- Your US SIM or eSIM stays in the phone; nothing to swap or install.
- WhatsApp and iMessage keep working over WiFi.
Works with any phone
- Locked to Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile? It still joins WiFi.
- No unlocking and no settings to change.
Delivered in Marrakech
- Handed to you at your riad, hotel, villa or Menara airport, free of charge.
- On Maroc Telecom, the network with the most recorded 4G cells in and around Marrakech.
One point to know: switching data roaming off does not stop ordinary calls. Your phone can still ring on a Moroccan network, and on AT&T accepting a call starts a Day Pass, while T-Mobile bills an answered call at $0.50 a minute. For calls home, use WhatsApp, FaceTime or another internet calling app over the router’s WiFi.
Other ways to get online in Marrakech
If you are one person and only need internet on one phone, an eSIM or a local SIM is an option too; the router is unlimited and shared by up to 10 devices. An eSIM needs a compatible phone that is not locked to your US carrier: the providers and their prices are in eSIM for Marrakech. A Moroccan SIM is bought in a shop with your passport and also needs an unlocked phone: see SIM card in Marrakech.
