What fast track at Marrakech airport is

It is a personal welcome and escort inside the terminal. TMC Conciergerie describes its Fast Track Premium like this: your agent waits for you as you leave the aircraft, holding a sign with your name, stays with you through the formalities, and hands you over to your driver. On departure the same thing happens in the other direction, from the drop-off point to the departure lounge.

The provider is clear about the legal frame: fast track does not change the airport’s rules. Passport control and customs are state formalities, and you present your own documents. The agent welcomes you, guides you, and takes you to the priority lane when it is open.

Why people book it at Menara

According to TMC Conciergerie, Marrakech Menara handled a record 10.2 million passengers in 2025, in terminals sized for about 7.4 million a year, while an extension is under way. European flights often arrive in waves, and when several aircraft reach passport control in the same slot, that is where the waiting happens. The airport is 6.9 km from the city centre, 15 to 20 minutes by car.

One thing you no longer have to do: there is no landing card to fill in. The provider notes that the police card was abolished on 16 September 2019 at all Moroccan airports. Passport and visa rules are in Morocco entry requirements.

On arrival, step by step

1. Before you land. You receive in writing the name of your agent and the exact meeting point, in French or in English.
2. As you leave the aircraft. Your agent is waiting with a sign in the name of the booking and takes charge of your group.
3. Passport control. The agent takes you to the control and to the priority lane when it is open. You present your own documents.
4. Customs. The agent accompanies you through customs.
5. The exit. The agent hands you to your driver, who has been told you are out, or walks you to the exit.

On departure, step by step

1. At the drop-off point. Your agent meets you as you get out of the vehicle and accompanies you into the terminal.
2. Check-in. The agent accompanies you to your airline’s desk.
3. Security and police controls. The agent takes you to the controls and to the priority lane when it is open.
4. The departure lounge. The agent leaves you at the lounge once the controls are passed. Boarding time is still the one your airline gives you.

What it costs

The provider states that the flight is tracked: if it is late, the agent adapts to the real landing time and no supplement is charged. Service is in French and English.

Is fast track at Marrakech airport worth it?

Fast track gets you out. A router gets you online.

Both are arranged before you fly, and they solve different halves of the same hour. Fast track is about the formalities. The connection is about everything after: telling the riad you have landed, following the route to the medina, sharing a location with the rest of the group.

What the official advice says

• Respect local customs. The FCDO states that Morocco’s laws and customs reflect the fact that it is an Islamic country, and asks visitors to respect local traditions and to make sure their actions do not offend, especially during Ramadan or when visiting religious areas.
• Women. Women may receive unwanted attention, especially when travelling alone. The advice is to consider wearing loose-fitting clothing which covers the arms, legs and chest.
• During Ramadan, follow local dress codes: clothing that does not meet them may cause more offence at this time. Ramadan next starts in February 2027.

What to wear in Marrakech as a woman

Loose trousers, long skirts or dresses, and tops that cover the shoulders and chest work everywhere in the city. A light scarf is useful for sun, dust and the occasional religious site; covering your hair is not expected of visitors. Swimwear is for the pool. In hotels and restaurants in the modern districts dress is more relaxed than in the medina.

What to wear in Marrakech as a man

Long, light trousers and a T-shirt or shirt are right everywhere. Shorts to the knee are common among visitors; sleeveless tops are out of place in the medina.

What to wear month by month

Shoes, evenings and day trips

• Shoes. Closed, comfortable and already worn in. The medina is uneven, dusty and shared with handcarts and scooters.
• Evenings. Nights average about 15 degrees cooler than afternoons all year, and roof terraces are breezy. Bring a layer even in spring and autumn.
• Atlas day trips. It is cooler in the mountains. The official advice for hikers is to pack water, sunscreen and appropriate clothing and to hire a professional guide.
• A bag that closes. Bag-snatching is listed as common in the medina; wear the strap across your body.

The other thing to carry: your connection

Marrakech weather month by month

Spring: March to May

Afternoons climb from 23°C in March to 30°C in May. March is the wettest month in the data, with about seven days of rain, and it is still short showers more often than grey days. This is the season for the gardens and for day trips towards the Atlas.

Summer: June to August

June averages 33°C. July and August average 38 to 39°C by day and 21°C at night, with about 24 days a month at 35°C or more and almost no rain. Visitors who come in summer plan around the heat: early mornings, long lunches indoors, evenings out. Our guide to Marrakech’s summer heat covers it.

Autumn: September to November

September still averages 33°C with about nine days at 35°C or more. October averages 30°C and November 24°C, with nights down to 10°C by November. Late September to mid-November is the other comfortable window.

Winter: December to February

Dates that change a trip

• Ramadan next starts in February 2027. Opening hours change and daytime eating in public may cause offence. Details in Ramadan 2027 in Morocco.
• School holidays, Christmas and Easter tend to be the busiest weeks: book accommodation and your router early.
• Winter rain in the mountains. The UK government’s travel advice notes that heavy rain can cause flash flooding, particularly in the mountains or near rivers during the winter months.

Staying connected in any season

In the heat you navigate from shade to shade and book ahead; in winter you check what is open and message the riad about heating. Either way the phone is in use all day.

The dirham is a closed currency

The FCDO describes the Moroccan dirham as a closed, non-convertible currency: it cannot be easily exchanged outside Morocco for other currencies. In practice you arrive with pounds, euros, dollars or just a card, and get dirhams in the country. Change what you have left before you fly home.

Rules on bringing money in and out

• Declare large amounts. You must declare foreign currency worth 100,000 Moroccan dirham or more (around £8,000) when you enter or leave the country.
• Banknotes. The FCDO states that passing fraudulent banknotes carries significant prison sentences, and that defacing Moroccan banknotes is illegal.

Cash or card in Marrakech?

The law in one paragraph

The FCDO states: alcohol is available in licensed venues. Drinking alcohol in the street and anywhere other than a licensed restaurant or bar is illegal and can lead to arrest. Morocco is an Islamic country, and the same advice asks visitors to respect local traditions, customs, laws and religions at all times.

Where you can drink in Marrakech

• Licensed hotels and their bars and restaurants.
• Licensed restaurants and bars.
• Not in the street, squares or parks. That includes Jemaa el-Fna.
• Riads vary. It depends on whether the riad holds a licence. Ask yours before you book if it matters to you.

A venue being licensed is not something you can see from the door. Check the menu or the listing online, or message the restaurant before you walk across the medina.

During Ramadan

Ramadan next starts in February 2027. The FCDO states that during Ramadan, eating or drinking in public in the daytime may cause offence, that hotels and restaurants serving food or drink in fasting hours may separate you from Muslim guests, for example with screens, and that you should check the opening hours of shops and restaurants. Drink-driving

The FCDO states that drink-driving is a serious offence in Morocco: if you are tested and found to have any alcohol in your system, you will get a fine and possible imprisonment. If you have hired a car, do not drink at all before driving.

Drugs are a different matter

Morocco has a zero-tolerance approach to drugs. The FCDO states that possessing, using or trafficking illegal drugs, including cannabis, are serious offences with severe penalties, and that you should expect a long jail sentence and heavy fines.

The bogus guide

The FCDO states that it is common for people posing as official tourist guides to harass tourists. The usual version: someone tells you the street is closed, or offers to show you the way, and then expects payment or leads you to a shop. The advice is clear: if you use a guide in the medina, make sure they have an official badge and permission from the local authority.

Substituted goods

The official advice warns of scammers substituting inferior goods for the ones you bought. Watch the item you chose being wrapped, and check it before you leave the shop.

Card fraud and cash machines

Credit card fraud is listed as common, and the FCDO advises caution when using cash machines, where aggressive begging also occurs. Use machines attached to a bank, keep the card in sight when you pay, and check your banking app the same day, which needs a connection you trust.

Taxis

The FCDO advises either agreeing a fare in advance or checking that the taxi is using a meter. It also states that many taxis booked through ride-sharing applications may be unregulated and unlicensed, and that the police may tell you to get out of an unlicensed taxi if they stop it.

Pickpockets and motorbike snatches

Petty crime is common in the medina: pickpocketing, bag-snatching and drive-by motorcycle theft of visible jewellery and handbags. Carry your bag on the side away from the road and do not carry large amounts of money or valuables.

Counterfeit alcohol

The FCDO reports deaths and serious illness in Morocco caused by alcoholic drinks containing methanol, which cannot be detected by taste or smell. Drink only in licensed venues.

What the official advice says

• Petty crime is common in tourist areas, especially in the historical districts (the medina quarters) and on beaches: pickpocketing, bag-snatching and drive-by motorcycle theft of visible jewellery and handbags.
• Violent crime is occasional. The FCDO states that criminals have used knives against tourists in street attacks, thefts and burglaries in major cities and along beaches. Its advice: avoid quiet areas, particularly after dark, and do not carry large amounts of money or valuables.
• Scams and card fraud are common, and people posing as official guides harass tourists. If you use a guide in the medina, make sure they have an official badge.
• Be cautious when asking for directions and using cash machines: aggressive begging is common.
• Terrorism. The FCDO states that terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks in Morocco, that attacks could be indiscriminate, and that the authorities regularly disrupt terrorist cells. Stay aware of your surroundings and follow the advice of local authorities.
• Protests can occur in large cities, often without warning. Avoid political gatherings and demonstrations.

Is Marrakech safe for women?

The FCDO states that women may receive unwanted attention in Morocco, especially when travelling alone, and suggests considering loose-fitting clothing that covers the arms, legs and chest. Our longer guide is travelling alone in Morocco.

Is Marrakech safe at night?

The official advice is to avoid quiet areas, particularly after dark. In practice that means keeping to lit, busy streets in the medina, knowing your route back to the riad before you set off, and agreeing with the riad how to reach them if you cannot find the door. Many riads will send someone to meet you at the nearest gate if you can message them.

Taxis

The FCDO advises agreeing a fare in advance or checking that the taxi is using its meter. It also states that many taxis booked through ride-sharing applications may be unregulated and unlicensed, that the police may tell you to get out of an unlicensed taxi if they stop it, and that petit taxi drivers will often pick up other customers during the journey.

Activities and day trips

• Quad biking. Accidents involving British nationals occur frequently in resort areas. Always wear a helmet and check your insurance covers it.
• Hot air balloons. Book only through licensed tour operators.
• Hiking in the Atlas. Research the trail, hire a professional guide and carry water, sunscreen and suitable clothing.
• Earthquakes are a risk. The last major one, in 2023, killed almost 3,000 people. Read the instructions in your hotel room.

Passport rules for Morocco

• Validity. Your passport must have an expiry date at least 3 months after the date you arrive.
• Condition. The passport must not be damaged. The FCDO states that the Moroccan authorities have denied entry to some travellers with damaged passports.
• Entry stamp. Border officials should stamp your passport when you enter. Some travellers have had difficulties leaving Morocco because their passport had no entry stamp, so check before you walk away from the desk.
• Lost or stolen passports. You need an emergency travel document from the British embassy and a police report to leave the country. The loss or theft must be reported in the city where it happened.
• Do not post a passport. It is illegal to send passports by post to or through Morocco, and the authorities confiscate British passports sent by post or courier.

Do you need a visa for Morocco?

For tourism, British citizens can visit Morocco without a visa for up to 90 days. To stay longer than 90 days you must request an extension at a Moroccan police station. If you are travelling for reasons other than tourism, check the visa requirements with the Moroccan Consulate General in the UK.

Customs and money rules

• Declare large amounts of cash. You must declare foreign currency worth 100,000 Moroccan dirham or more (around £8,000) when you enter or leave the country.
• The dirham is a closed currency. It cannot easily be exchanged outside Morocco, so most visitors change money or use a cash machine after they land.
• Goods. There are strict rules about what you can take into or out of Morocco, and anything that may be prohibited or taxed must be declared.
• Drones. You need permission from Morocco’s Directorate General for Civil Aviation to fly a drone; without it you risk a fine and confiscation.
• Polio certificate. You need a certificate of polio vaccination if you are coming from a polio-affected country.

Driving into Morocco or hiring a car

The FCDO states that you need both the 1968 version of the international driving permit and your UK driving licence in the car, and that Morocco no longer accepts the 1949 version. You cannot buy the permit outside the UK, so get it before you travel. More on the road rules in driving in Morocco.

Passport control at Marrakech Menara is the last formality. What most visitors need next is a connection: to message the riad, find the driver or open the booking with the address. Will my US phone work in Marrakech?

Yes. Marrakech is covered in 4G by the three Moroccan operators, Maroc Telecom, Orange and inwi, and the US carriers roam on Moroccan networks. When you land, your phone picks one of them and shows its name. Calls, texts and data then work if international roaming is active on your account and data roaming is switched on in your phone’s settings.

What each US carrier charges in Morocco

Verizon in Marrakech

Verizon lists Morocco on its TravelPass countries page at $12 per day. TravelPass gives talk, text and data for a daily fee, and Verizon states that you are only charged on the days you use your phone abroad. The data is 5 GB at high speed, then 3G speeds for the rest of that TravelPass session. Verizon says TravelPass is added automatically on its Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Welcome plans, and that Unlimited Ultimate includes international data, talk and text. For longer trips Verizon sells a $100 International Monthly Plan with 20 GB of high-speed data, then 3G speeds, unlimited texts and 250 minutes; it presents this plan as ideal for trips of 9 days or longer.

AT&T in Marrakech

Morocco is in the list of destinations on AT&T’s International Day Pass page. The pass costs $12 a day on land, and $6 for each additional line used on the same calendar day. With an eligible unlimited plan it gives talk, text and data, with the data allowance of your US plan. AT&T states that the 24-hour pass starts the first time you use data, send a text, or make or accept a call in an included destination, and that the daily fees are charged to your bill at the end of the billing cycle.

T-Mobile in Marrakech

T-Mobile lists Morocco among the countries included in its international roaming benefit. On Experience Beyond and Go5G Next you get up to 15 GB of high-speed data; on Experience More, Go5G Plus and Magenta MAX, up to 5 GB. After that, roaming data continues at up to 256 Kbps, which is enough for messages and slow for maps and video. Texting is included and calls are billed at $0.50 a minute. Essentials plans get free texting only: for data T-Mobile sells International Passes, at $10 for 2 GB over 24 hours, $50 for 15 GB over 10 days or $75 for 30 GB over 30 days, each with unlimited calling.

What a week in Marrakech costs, per phone and per group

The daily passes are paid per phone and per day used. The router is one price for the group: a couple, a family or four friends share one unlimited connection, laptops and tablets included. On the T-Mobile plans that include roaming data there is no daily charge; the allowance is 5 GB or 15 GB per phone and then drops to 256 Kbps, and the router adds full-speed data with no amount to watch for everyone travelling with you.

How to check your own plan before you fly

1. Open your carrier’s app (My Verizon, myAT&T or T-Life) and look up Morocco in the international section. It shows what your plan includes, which can differ from the standard figures above.
2. Check whether a pass is already on your line. A daily pass that is on your line starts on its own the first time the phone uses data, sends a text or takes a call abroad.
3. Decide before you land. If you will not pay the daily charge, switch data roaming off in your phone’s settings before the plane lands, so the phone does not start a chargeable day on its own.
4. Keep WhatsApp ready. Over a WiFi connection, messages and WhatsApp calls do not use roaming.

Why is my phone not working in Marrakech?

When a US phone shows no service or no data after landing, the cause is usually one of these:

• Data roaming is switched off in the phone’s settings. Calls may work while data does not.
• International roaming is not active on the account, or the plan has no international feature.
• The phone has not registered on a Moroccan network yet. Switching airplane mode on and off, or choosing a network by hand, usually fixes it.

A phone with roaming switched off still connects to WiFi, which is how most visitors use theirs.

The way to avoid roaming charges: a router for the group

One point to know: switching data roaming off does not stop ordinary calls. Your phone can still ring on a Moroccan network, and on AT&T accepting a call starts a Day Pass, while T-Mobile bills an answered call at $0.50 a minute. Will my phone work in Marrakech?

Yes. Marrakech is covered in 4G by the three Moroccan operators, Maroc Telecom, Orange and inwi, and UK networks have roaming agreements with them. When you land, your phone picks one of those networks and shows its name. Calls, texts and data then work if roaming is active on your account and switched on in your phone’s settings.

Morocco is not part of the European roaming zones that UK plans include. It sits in a worldwide zone on all four networks, which is why a phone that roamed at no extra cost in Spain starts charging once you cross to Morocco.

What each UK network charges in Morocco

O2 in Marrakech

O2 lists Morocco in Zone 3 of its Data Roaming Bolt Ons, the most expensive of its three zones outside Europe: £26 for 100 MB, £45 for 500 MB and £65 for 1 GB. O2 states that the Bolt Ons do not cover calls and texts: making or receiving a call outside Europe is charged at £3 a minute and sending a text costs £1. If you do not buy a Bolt On, O2 says you pay nothing for data because it stops your data abroad. The Bolt Ons are not available on Pay As You Go.

EE in Marrakech

EE’s Pay Monthly price guide places Morocco in Rest of World Zone 3. The Roaming Pass for that zone costs £7.50 a day and gives calls and texts and 500 MB of data for the day. The guide we read on EE’s website is dated 23 July 2025, so check the EE app for the charge on your plan today.

Vodafone in Marrakech

Vodafone lists Morocco among its Zone D destinations, with Egypt, India, Thailand and the UAE. Vodafone states that roaming there costs £8 a day on Pay Monthly plans that started on or after 11 August 2021, and £6 a day on plans that started before that date. A fair use limit of 25 GB a month applies to data used while roaming.

Three in Marrakech

Three lists Morocco as a Go Roam Around the World Extra destination for Pay Monthly customers. The daily roaming charge there is £7 if you joined or upgraded between 1 October 2021 and 17 December 2025, and £8 if you joined or upgraded on or after 18 December 2025. Three states that you can use up to 12 GB of your data allowance in a Go Roam destination.
